Review of Hotel FIVE – A Staypineapple Seattle Hotel

When we were planning our Seattle family vacation, I was fairly open to which hotel we would stay in. I booked the trip through Jetblue Vacations, and had quite a few Seattle hotel options. When I saw the Hotel FIVE – a Staypineapple Seattle hotel on the list, I was unfamiliar with this unique brand.

After looking at some online reviews and checking out the great location, I decided to book the Hotel FIVE Seattle as our home base. We loved this eclectic little hotel, and would definitely recommend a stay there for either a business stay or a family vacation.

As a Seattle-based chain, there are currently four Staypineapple Seattle hotels. These include the Hotel FIVE, the Watertown Hotel University District, the University Inn University District, and the Maxwell Hotel Seattle Center.

We only visited the Hotel FIVE, so I can’t speak to the experiences at the other locations. However, there are many amenities that are consistent across the small chain.

Review of Hotel FIVE – A Staypineapple Seattle Hotel

A review of the Hotel FIVE - Staypineapple Seattle hotel, located within walking distance of Pike Place Market and the Space Needle.

Location of Hotel FIVE – A Staypineapple Hotel

Our primary reason for booking Hotel FIVE was the great location. It’s in downtown Seattle, between Pike Place Market and the Space Needle. We were able to walk to most of the Seattle attractions that we wanted to visit.

If you are flying into Seattle, you’ll be arriving at the SeaTac Airport. After arriving, we rode the shuttle to the rental car facility and got our car. A quick 30 minute drive later, and we were at the hotel.

Parking is available at the Hotel FIVE, but it isn’t cheap. There’s a small lot behind the hotel with additional parking underground. Definitely think about whether or not you really need a car during your trip. We spent a lot on parking and rental car fees, and probably could have used ride share services and ZipCar.

In addition to the parking fee, there’s also an amenities fee. Although we did prepay for everything through JetBlue Vacations, we paid for the parking and resort fee separately. The amenities fee covers the various amenities offered by the hotel, including the complimentary coffee and water.

Our cross-country flight landed early in Seattle, and we checked in right around lunch time. Despite arriving before check in time, our room was ready.

In the immediate neighborhood of the Hotel FIVE Seattle, you’ll find shops, restaurants, coffee shops, pharmacies, a cinema, and more. Seattle Center, which is the home of several museums as well as the Space Needle, is about a fifteen minute walk away.

Rooms at the Hotel FIVE – A Staypineapple Hotel

When booking your room at the Hotel FIVE – Staypineapple Seattle, you’ll have several different room types to choose from. These include the following:

  • An urban queen, with one queen bed
  • An urban two queen, with two queen beds
  • An urban king, with one king bed
  • An urban suite with a king bed and a pullout couch

We booked the urban queen for our family of four. These rooms aren’t huge, but are packed with lots of fun, funky amenities. The rooms feature Keurig coffee makers, complimentary water, televisions, free WiFi, a small chair, a desk, a charging area, and Tommy Bahama toiletries in large dispensers attached to the shower.

The design of these rooms is eclectic and fun, with bright colors and modern accents. They are also filled with the pineapple motif, which is quirky and bright.

Pineapple Coffee Mugs

There are also exclusive Staypineapple items for purchase within the room. There’s a stuffed animal of the hotel’s mascot Dash, which can be purchased. You’ll also find pineapple coffee mugs, a snack box, and yellow robes. The mugs and robes can be used in the room, and you can purchase them if you’d like to bring them home.

The rooms at the Hotel FIVE – Staypineapple Hotel also feature their proprietary “Naked Experience” bed. These beds include double duvets rather than the standard bedding (although standard bedding is available). These duvets are so soft and comfortable, and the double duvets mean that there’s no fighting for covers.

While the room was a bit small for our family of four, we didn’t really spend much time in the room. There are also no real views at the hotel – it’s not on the water and none of the rooms face the Space Needle. Again, that wasn’t an issue for us at all, as we really enjoyed the room design, fun amenities, and location.

Amenities at the Hotel Five – Staypineapple Seattle

Bikes at the Staypineapple Seattle

In addition to a great location and fun rooms, the Hotel FIVE downtown Seattle offers lots of family-friendly amenities.

My favorite part of the hotel is the lively and bright lobby, which was almost always filled with guests enjoying the hotel. It’s was never overcrowded, but had a fun community atmosphere.

Pineapple cookies

The lobby isn’t large, but features plenty of seating as well as games like Connect Four and table shuffleboard. During the afternoon, the hotel serves snacks like pineapple cupcakes and cookies, as well as fresh brewed coffee. I was ready for a cup of coffee in the afternoon, and it was nice to get a complimentary one right in the hotel.

There’s also a happy hour at that time, with half price well drinks, wine, and beer. You can enjoy it in the hotel’s bistro, in your room, or in the lobby.

Complimentary bike rentals are also offered from the hotel. We didn’t borrow them during our stay, but I saw lots of guests getting them for a morning or afternoon trip.

There’s also a small fitness center off the lobby. It wasn’t too full, but did have some basic cardio equipment as well as hand weights.

In the morning, the hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast. There, you’ll find pastries, cereal, bagels, English muffins, coffee, juice, and hard-boiled eggs. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast about half of the days of our trip, and went out for breakfast on the other days. It was nice to have the option to save money.

If you want to travel to a nearby tourist location in the area, there’s a complimentary shuttle available. We walked almost everywhere, but if you want to go to the zoo or Pioneer Square, it’s probably a good idea to take the shuttle.

Food at the Hotel FIVE Seattle

While Seattle is filled with delicious restaurants, it’s also nice to have an onsite option available. The Hotel FIVE – Seattle offers a coffee bar in the lobby, with premium coffee drinks as well as pastries.

There’s also the Pineapple Bistro and Bar. On our first night, we were jet lagged and didn’t want to leave the hotel, so we decided to eat at the restaurant. It offers delicious light bites and other bar food, including a make your own mac and cheese menu.

It’s a great place to grab lunch, dinner, or even a quick drink while the kids play a game in the lobby. Room service is also offered from the restaurant.
