Disney's All Star Music Resort Review

Walt Disney World vacations have become increasingly expensive, but there are still some great ways to save money. One option is to choose a Disney Value Resort for your stay. Value resorts still offer some fantastic Disney amenities, including a fun theme, but are typically less expensive than their moderate and deluxe counterparts.

Recently, I stayed in Disney's All-Star Music Resort - the only one of the Disney value resorts that I hadn't stayed in before. Like the other Disney All-Star resorts, the All-Star Music resort offers comfortable rooms with some fun amenities and theming. However, All-Star Music is the only All-Star resort to offer family suites. These are perfect for families looking for a little extra space.

Disney All-Star Music Resort Review

The Location of the Disney All-Star Music Resort

Disney’s All-Star Music Resort is located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort Area, adjacent to the other two All-Star resorts. It is not within walking distance of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, so you’ll use Disney bus transportation or drive.

Bus service is available to all theme parks, both water parks, and Disney Springs. The bus lines are organized, but not covered. A monitor by the bus stop displays the arrival times for the next buses to each destination. It can get busy, especially in the mornings.

Complimentary parking is offered at all All-Star hotels if you drive to your vacation or rent a car. Parking is spread out along the resort's perimeter, so you can park somewhat close to your room, regardless of which section you are in.

The Rooms at Disney's All-Star Music Resort

Like the other All-Star resorts, the rooms at Disney's All-Star Music Resort feature Disney’s newer Value Resort room style. Rooms are relatively small and standard, but are still comfortable. The renovation has made them feel a lot more open.

This is because most rooms at the All-Star Music resort have two beds, including a standard queen bed and a queen pullout bed that doubles as a table. Despite being a Murphy bed, this pullout bed is still very comfortable (it seems to have the same mattress). The rooms have lots of pillows, with more than enough for our stay.

The room feels pretty spacious with the Murphy bed up. I'd recommend keeping it up during the day and taking it down only when you need it. Rooms offer complimentary WiFi, as does the rest of the Walt Disney property.

Instead of carpeting, these newly renovated rooms have laminate flooring, which is much easier to keep clean. The rooms offer a beverage cooler, a safe, a coffee maker, a hair dryer, and a television. Magic Bands (if you have one) can be used to open the door, as can the My Disney Experience app. Or, you can get a room key card from the front desk of the resort.

Guest rooms are all located in various buildings scattered throughout the resort. These are motel-style rooms with exterior entrances. There are stairs and elevators to reach the upper floors, but I've found that a ground-floor room is the most convenient, although a bit noisier. Connecting rooms are available.

In addition, Disney's All-Star Music Resort offers family suites. These suites include a separate bedroom plus a living/sleeping area, with one queen bed and two queen-size pull-down beds in total. There are also two bathrooms, making morning getting ready much easier.

These rooms also include a small kitchenette. These offer a refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave.

When booking a regular room at Disney's All-Star Music Resort, you'll have a choice of a standard or a preferred room. The difference between these is the location. The preferred rooms have a better location, close to Melody Hall. That's where you'll find the check-in desks, the Note’able Games Arcade, Maestro Mickey's gift shop, the Intermission Food Court, and the entrance to the bus stops.

Amenities at the Disney All-Star Music Resort

While All-Star Music is a value resort, it still offers plenty of amenities and recreation for families. These include:

• Two pools, including the vibrant Three Caballeros-themed Calypso Pool and the smaller Piano Pool
• Small playground near the Jazz Inn section of the resort
• Note’able Games Arcade in Melody Hall
• Jogging Trail around the three All-Star resorts
• Campfire Activities
• Parties, including a glow party and a silent disco (see the posted schedule at the resort)
• Movies Under the Stars
• Crafts (some paid, some complimentary)

Food at the Disney All-Star Music Resort

Like the other Disney Value Resorts, Disney's All-Star Music doesn't have a table service restaurant. Instead, they have the Intermission Food Court, a quick-service restaurant where you can buy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The menu includes some quick-service fare, like burgers, chicken strips, and pizza. There's also a selection of drinks, including coffee, as well as refillable drink cups.

In addition to the Intermission Food Court, the resort has a pool bar. Singing Spirits Pool Bar is located at the Calypso pool and offers snacks and beverages.

Who Should Stay Here?

Good for:

• Families looking for one of the less expensive Disney-property resorts
• Families who want Early Theme Park Entry but don’t need deluxe amenities
• Larger families who want to book a family suite
• Trips where the room is mostly for sleeping

Not ideal for:

• Families who want boat, monorail, Skyliner, or walking access
• Families planning lots of resort time
• Guests who want a table-service restaurant, pool slide, or hot tub

Pros and Cons of Disney’s All-Star Music Resort

Pros

• Typically, one of the more affordable Disney-owned resorts.
• Fun, oversized music theming for kids.
• Renovated rooms with queen beds and a pull-down table bed. Connecting rooms are offered.
• Free Disney bus transportation to the parks and Disney Springs.
• Good option for families who spend most of their time in the parks.
• Family suites are available and accommodate up to six people.
• Early Theme Park Entry (30 minutes before park opening) is offered for guests staying at Disney's All-Star Music Resort, like the other Disney resorts

Cons

• Rooms are relatively small.
• Bus transportation is the only Disney transportation option.
• No table-service restaurant, only a food court.
• No pool slides or hot tubs at any of the value resorts.
• Exterior-entry rooms may not appeal to every family and can be a little louder.

Overall, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort is a practical choice for families who want the perks of staying on Disney property without paying moderate or deluxe resort prices. It isn’t the most luxurious option, and bus transportation is the only Disney transportation available, but the renovated rooms, family suites, fun theming, and lower price point make it a good fit for many park-focused Disney World vacations.
