When I travel, I try to go carry-on only as much as possible. By traveling carry-on only, I can save money on bag fees and save time at both ends of my flight. In addition, I don't have to worry about losing my luggage.
When I can find a bag that can both carry a lot of stuff and serve as a personal item, I know it'll be a great option for flying. To fly carry-on only for a multiple-day trip, you really do need to use your personal item effectively.
I recently received an Airback FLEX Underseat bag and was eager to test it in practice. It really does hold a ton of things, perfect for a weekend getaway. Read our post to see all of the features of the bag, and what you can include in it.

Review of the Airback Flex Underseat Suitcase
The Airback FLEX can be purchased on their website. It comes in several different colors, including matt black, light sand, olive green, and navy blue.
Features of the Airback FLEX Underseat Luggage
Size
The Airback FLEX is 15.75" x 7.87" x 11.81", which means it can be used as a personal item on most airlines (always check your specific airline's rules). Since the personal item goes under the seat in front of you when flying, you'll also be able to have a larger roller bag (also carry-on-sized) in the overhead bins.
Can Be Carried Multiple Ways
When traveling with a personal item, it's really helpful if it can be carried in multiple ways. That way, you'll have the flexibility to use it as needed.
The Airback FLEX can be carried several ways. It has a retractable handle, so that it can be rolled. Or, you can use the backpack straps to carry it on your back. There are lots of cushions throughout, so it's comfortable.
Holds About 15 Clothing Items
The Airback FLEX includes a vacuum compression system that is optional. There's a separate pocket that can be compressed with a pump (sold separately). When we packed it, we found that this pocket was best for bulkier items, like sweaters and sweatshirts. When using compression, it can hold 16-32 liters.
Other features of the Airback FLEX:
- Water-resistant fabric
- Theft-proof with a lock
- Expandable to fit even more
- Sleek, elegant design

Packing the Airback FLEX
When packing the Airback FLEX, you can include a variety of items. Start with the main backpack section, where you can place your toiletries, shoes, and some clothes. It's expandable if you need extra space.
Next, you can pack the compression pocket. It's got a strong zipper to ensure a tight seal. This pocket is best for soft, bulkier items, like sweaters and sweatshirts. If you add items like toiletries and shoes, the compression won't be as effective.
The center pocket is great for things like books, tablets, or Kindles. Then you can zip up the whole bag. The bag also has a front pocket that is perfect for your travel documents, like your passport and boarding pass.

Use for a Weekend Getaway
The Airback FLEX is perfect for a weekend or long weekend getaway. With space for a few days' worth of clothes, toiletries, entertainment, and travel documents, it's easy to pack and use. You won't have to even bring a carry-on bag - you can just use it as a personal item. It's perfect to use when you're flying on a ticket/airline that doesn't include a carry-on or checked bag.
This bag does get heavy, especially when packing the compression pouch. In those cases, it's best to use it with the wheels/retractable handle, that way you won't have to carry it at all.
