You can tell a lot about a family by what is in the trunk of the family car. Before we had kids, my trunk was spotless and pretty much empty, except for an ice scraper or two. Now, with a 7 and a 9 year old, I’m always on the go, and my trunk is now filled with those ice scrapers, plus beach towels, soccer balls, three tennis racquets, and baseball/softball equipment. Since I drive a small Toyota Prius, when we travel, I have to unload all of those sporting goods before we can pack our suitcases in the car. I definitely need better trunk organization – something I’ll need to work on in this new year. I’d like to get some large totes that I can use to easily move items in and out of the trunk.
One thing that has remained in my trunk since I bought this car is my emergency kit. Years ago, I got one as a gift and I never travel without it. The kit came fully packed, and includes a blanket, jumper cables, warming packets, a multi-use tool, and flares. I haven’t yet needed it, but I do feel better knowing that it’s there – just in case. State Farm has some great tips on their site about what to pack in your car this winter – I need to follow a few of these tips myself, because there are things I don’t have in my trunk.
Join me, some other great panelists, State Farm, and TravelingMom.com for a Twitter party on January 13, 2014 from 9-10pm ET. We’ll be talking about carrying emergency supplies in your car, and we’ll have some great giveaways too. The prizes include 5 State Farm Safe Trunk Makeover giveaways and three $100 State Farm branded-Visa gift cards. The hashtags for the party are #TrunkJunk and #TMOM, and you should RSVP for the party on TravelingMom.com first!
