The Sheraton Raleigh Hotel With Kids

A few weeks ago, as part of our Raleigh, North Carolina press trip, my son and I had the opportunity to stay at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel, which is located right downtown. Although we were only there for a short time, we really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend a stay at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel with kids. It’s both comfortable and extremely convenient.

Review of The Sheraton Raleigh Hotel With Kids

A review of the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel, located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina

The Location of the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel

If you are planning a Raleigh family vacation, the Sheraton is a great spot. It’s located right in downtown Raleigh, and is within walking distance of some popular Raleigh family attractions, including the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the North Carolina Museum of History, and the Videri Chocolate Factory as well as the Raleigh Convention Center and North Carolina State.

It’s a short drive from the Raleigh airport – about 20-25 minutes, so it’s very convenient if you are flying in. Self parking and valet parking are both available at the hotel if you rent a car or are road tripping to the hotel.

The Rooms at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel

We arrived at the hotel at 1am, due to a delayed evening flight from Boston because of bad weather. As you can imagine, we were exhausted, so we were happy to be greeted by friendly and helpful front desk staff.

We were able to get quickly checked in and up to our room with the great customer service. Rooms at the Sheraton Raleigh were renovated in 2016, and are very modern.

Room amenities at the Sheraton Raleigh include a sofa, a small table, flat screen television, and a desk, along with a coffee / tea maker, a complimentary bottle of water, and a hairdryer. Complimentary WiFi is offered in the rooms and the lobby.

We found the beds to be extremely comfortable – something I always like in a hotel. These beds are called the Sheraton Signature Bed, and they are exclusive to Sheraton hotels. While my son and I didn’t have too much time in the hotel, we did enjoy the room. It was great to get such a good night of sleep after a long day touring the city.

In total, there are 353 guest rooms at the hotel, with several room types offered. These include club level rooms (which offer club lounge access), king bed rooms, and 2 double bed rooms. High floor rooms are also offered by the resort, and you can specify that request by reserving a room specifically on a high floor.

Depending on when you visit, you may be able to get a lower price by pre purchasing your room (with no refund available). Deals and packages are also offered, which include a room with breakfast included. That can be a good option if you are going to eat at the hotel.

The pool at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel
Amenities at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel

In addition to the convenient location, the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel offers some family-friendly amenities that your kids will enjoy. While we were there, the hotel offered an indoor heated pool. When we’ve updated this post in 2019, however, there’s no mention of the pool on their website, so it’s possible that it is temporarily or permanently closed.

The hotel also offers a fitness center that is open daily. There’s a Sheraton Club on the 17th floor that is offered to those in the club rooms, as well as Marriott Bonvoy Members. In the past, SPG gold and silver members could redeem points for club access if they don’t specifically reserve a club hotel room. That program has since merged with the Bonvoy program, so I’m not sure if that is still an option.

Sheraton Raleigh Lobby

The hotel also offers workstations in the lobby that can be used for printing and internet access – especially helpful if you need to print up a boarding pass. The free wireless internet access extends to the lobby, so you’ll be able to use it in this lobby business center.

Jimmy V's at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel

Food at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel

While we only had one meal (breakfast on our first day) at the hotel, it was delicious. The hotel offers a full service restaurant, Jimmy V’s Osteria and Bar, which is located in the lobby. It offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has a wonderful bar area as well.

We found the restaurant to be delicious, and a great spot for breakfast. If your hotel package doesn’t include breakfast, it’s still worth having breakfast at Jimmy V’s at least once during your stay.

For quicker service, there’s a small coffee bar called Cafe Siena, also in the lobby. This coffee bar also offers some grab and go items if you are in a hurry or aren’t too hungry. In addition, room service from Jimmy V’s is offered for much of the day.
