Entertaining kids on the road isn’t always easy. Sure, we now have iPads and Leapsters to play with, but when they don’t have access to WiFi, the amount of things they can do is somewhat limiting. My kids enjoy watching movies on the go, but it can be challenging to travel with two DVD players and a set of DVDs. So, when I saw the Seagate GoFlex Satellite in Best Buy before a big trip last year, I decided to give it a try.
The Seagate GoFlex Satellite is a portable hard drive that can be accessed via Bluetooth by several different iPads at one time. That means while my son is watching The Muppets on one iPad, my daughter can watch Despicable Me on the other. The Seagate GoFlex was especially useful during our family cruise on the Carnival Glory. With a limited amount of television channels for them to watch and no DVD, I was really glad to have the Seagate GoFlex Satellite so the kids could watch movies while hanging out in our stateroom.
Adding movies is easy. You’ll need to have a digital file on your computer (many DVDs and BluRays also include a coupon for a digital download), then you can plug it in to your computer (Mac or PC) and copy the movies over. You can add up to 300 HD movies with the 500 GB drive. To play a movie, you just have to download the free app to your iPad, then connect to the GoFlex Satellite. You’ll see a listing of all movies available, and hit play.
While we have the Seagate GoFlex Satellite, they did just recently introduce a new version – the Seagate Wireless. It includes 1 TB of storage and works with the same iPad app. Both are available on Amazon.com or at your local Best Buy or Staples.
