I enjoy shopping and traveling, but I also love saving money. I always work hard to find the very best deal on anything I buy or book, and generally do a good amount of research in advance. It’s not always easy to uncover the best prices, however, and it’s not always worth the extra time that it takes. When Dosh approached me to work with them, I hadn’t heard of this great, cash-back app. After playing around with the app, I can definitely see that it’s a great way for family travelers to save money both when traveling and when at home.
Setting Up Dosh
Dosh is easy to download from the app store. As you setup your account, you’ll be asked to add your credit cards. By adding two cards, I got $6 in Dosh ($5 for the first card and $1 for the second). It’s easy to link a card. You can either manually type the information, or you can snap a photo within the app.
You’ll also want to enable location, so that you can identify any deals that are available near your current location. This makes it great for travel.
There are several ways to earn Dosh. Once you link your card, you are eligible to earn cash back automatically from applicable purchases. After I enabled locations and added my cards, I was able to see some shops and restaurants that I regularly frequent. This is especially helpful when you are traveling, because you won’t need to specifically look for deals – they will automatically appear when you make an eligible purchase.
You can also earn Dosh by making online purchases through the app. You’ll need to click right through the app, but there are plenty of stores available. Before making online purchases, it’s a good idea to search the app to see if a cash back bonus is offered.
Traveling With Dosh
Finally, you can book travel directly through Dosh. In searching through the app, I was able to find a deal on a hotel that I plan to stay in later this year. You can search by location and dates, with hotel name and star level as optional selection criteria. The hotel that I found was available with a few different room types at different price points. You can also compare prices with competitors right on the app. Right now, they are offering a $25 credit with your first stay booked through the app. Combined with the $52 per night Dosh offered for that hotel, it’s a pretty big amount of cash back. Keep in mind that you don’t usually get hotel points for stays booked outside of a hotel’s website, and that hotels booked through Dosh are non refundable. You can also use Dosh to book car rentals.
So, once you’ve earned Dosh, what do you do with it? After earning $15, you can cash out, as long as you’ve connected a card. Or, Dosh can be donated to several charity options available on the app.
It’s free to download and use, so it’s definitely worth checking out. To learn more, you can visit their website.
