It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the Westin hotel chain. From their heavenly beds to their heavenly showers, a Westin hotel room is guaranteed to be one of the most comfortable ones around. During my recent trip to Detroit, I stayed at the recently renovated Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, located in downtown Detroit, and it did not disappoint.
The Westin Book Cadillac, included in the National Register of Historic Places, has recently completed a $200 million renovation. In addition to 60 residences, the hotel boasts 453 guestrooms, including 35 suites. I had a traditional king room which included a king bed, large workspace, 42-inch LCD flat-screen television, wireless high-speed Internet access, a Heavenly bed and Heavenly bath, coffee maker, and in-room safe. The bed, linens, and towels were the most comfortable I’d ever experienced. This was definitely a hotel where you could just spend the night to relax. However, its downtown location is convenient for sightseeing, and it’s located right near the Detroit People Mover. Valet and self-parking is available. My room was a big larger than the standard hotel room and was incredibly comfortable, and all of the staff members I encountered were very friendly. I wish I had more time to enjoy the resort.
The Westin Book Cadillac offers a full-service spa, fitness center, and indoor pool with jacuzzi. While I was visiting, the pool area was almost completely empty. I didn’t bring a swimsuit, so I was unfortunately unable to take advantage of it. The hotel seems to cater mostly to business travelers, but families would certainly be welcome. There are also several restaurants, including the Boulevard Room (offering breakfast and lunch), the Motor Bar, 24 Grille, Michael Symon’s ROAST, and WBC Coffee. We enjoyed a dinner at fantastic dinner at ROAST, but wasn’t able to check out any of the other restaurants. I would definitely recommend dining there (even if you aren’t staying at the Westin), but keep in mind that it isn’t very kid friendly.
The hotel offers great package deals, including shopping packages and dining packages. Because the Westin Book Cadillac is located near both Ford Field and Comerica Park, it’s a great place to stay for anyone in town to catch a game.
