Disclosure: My stay at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort was complimentary. All opinions are my own.
When traveling with my children, the most important thing I look for is kid-friendly activities and amenities at our hotel or resort. Unless we are just staying at the hotel for a quick overnight, my family really enjoys having fun things to do right in our hotel. So, during our recent stay in the Greater Phoenix area, we were thrilled for the chance to stay at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, located in a quiet part of North Phoenix.
Review: Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort
The all-suite Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort is one of two Pointe Hilton Resorts in Phoenix (the other being the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs, located just a short distance away). These resorts are currently the only resorts in the entire Hilton collection with the “Pointe” branding, a holdover from the prior name of the resorts before they were purchased by Hilton. The hotel offers 563 suites, including 80 one or two-bedroom casitas over 27 acres of property. It’s a great place to visit with kids, especially if you want to spend lots of time at the resort.
Rooms at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort
The accommodations at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak are a nice size and perfect for families. All of the rooms are suites – regular suites offer two rooms with one bathroom, including a living room area with a pullout couch. Prefer to have more space? There are 80 two-story casitas with covered adjacent parking, a living room, wet bar, 1 1/2 baths, one or two bedrooms, and a large outdoor patio. We spent so much time reading on the patio – and it would also be a great place to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For larger families, some of the casita units are adjoining with connecting doors. Both the regular and casita units offer at least two televisions, a coffee maker, large work space, and luxurious Peter Thomas Roth bath amenities. All guests are charged a standard daily resort fee that includes complimentary internet for up to two devices, tennis, fitness center, local calls, and more.
Family-Friendly Amenities and Activities at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort
During our two-night stay at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, we spent most of our time at the River Ranch, a 4-acre water park which includes a water slide, sports pool, lazy river, and main pool. Admission to the River Ranch is included with the resort fee, and is limited only to guests. Towels are provided and the whole area is well staffed. As we were checking in to the River Ranch on the first day, my daughter was stung by a bee. The manager noticed before my daughter even said anything, and a friendly security officer came by immediately to offer first aid. I was so impressed with how quickly they responded – even before we noticed she had been stung.
Families can easily spend the day at the River Ranch. With a sports pool, main pool, water slide, hot tub, and lazy river, there’s so much to do. Food and drinks are also available, and a large gift shop is located adjacent to the pools. In addition to the pools at the River Ranch, there are several other pools located on property, including a lap pool at the fitness center.
On our second day, my kids attended the morning session of the Coyote Camp, a kids’ club that is offered with several different options – morning, morning with lunch, afternoon, or all day. During their time, they created these adorable clay figures and planted small cacti that we were able to take home. I always love when my kids enjoy their time at a kids’ club, because it gives me some free time to relax.
The resort also offers a fitness center and spa, although I didn’t have time to visit them. If I stayed longer than 2 nights, I definitely would have spent time at both.
Restaurants at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak
During our stay, we ate at the on site BBQ restaurant – the Hole in the Wall. It’s a casual restaurant located by the River Ranch that is great for families. My family really enjoyed it – I’d definitely recommend eating there. There are other restaurants on property, including the pool bar & restaurant, a full-service restaurant, and a lobby shop serving food and Starbucks coffee. Many other off-property restaurants are located just a short drive away, so you definitely don’t have to eat all of your meals there.
We really loved our stay at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort – I’m definitely looking forward to returning in the future. My kids especially loved the River Ranch.
