Despite living in New England for almost my entire life, I’d never ventured north to the bustling, artsy city of Portland, Maine. During the recent holiday break we enjoyed a two-day stay at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel, located in the Arts District in Portland, Maine.

The Westin Portland Harborview Hotel, originally called the Eastland Hotel, opened in December 2013, after a $50 million dollar renovation. The resort has 289 guest rooms, all offering the Westin amenities that travelers love, including the Westin Heavenly Bath and the Westin Heavenly Bed. I often try to book a Westin hotel on my family vacations, because I love the comfort of those beds!

Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by friendly valets who parked our car and were available to assist with luggage (self-parking is also available). As we entered the resort, we were impressed with the beautiful decor of the lobby, which was decorated for the Christmas holidays. After a quick and easy stop at the small check-in desk, we were ready to head up to our room.

Guests of the Westin Portland Harborview must use their keycard to get to the guest room floors from the elevator. This extra level of security was welcomed, and made us feel more safe in our room. We had a room with two double beds, and found that it was a good amount of space for us. The room offered a small refrigerator, a coffee maker, in-room safe, closet, table, bench, large workspace, comfortable armchair, hairdryer, alarm clock, and beautiful views of the city.

Complimentary WiFi and bottled water is available to members of the Starwood Preferred Guest program (joining is free). Like other Westin hotels that I’ve stayed in, the Westin in Portland Maine offers the Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath. I also love their signature White Tea and Aloe scented toiletries, which are my favorite hotel toiletries of all time.

Overall, the room was incredibly comfortable and was the perfect place to rest between our Portland Maine adventures. Of course, there’s so much to do in Portland, so you probably won’t spend too much time in your room during your vacation.

The hotel did appear to be busy during our stay, but we didn’t hear much noise at all. It is a pet-friendly hotel and we saw many guests walking their adorable dogs through the lobby. The hotel offers a fitness center (complete with TVs) as well as a full-service spa, and has conference facilities totaling 15,000 square feet. The lobby has a concierge desk as well as a small sundries shop. There are lots of other shops just steps from the store, including a CVS, in case you left anything at home.

The Location of the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel

The Westin Portland Maine is located in the Arts District of Portland, just steps from the Portland Museum of Art and the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine. There are loads of restaurants, shops, and coffee shops nearby, and the popular Old Port District is within walking distance.

A complimentary guest shuttle is available to take you anywhere within a 3-mile radius, which is a great option if you’d like to leave your car parked. Some guests may want to take the Amtrak Downeaster train, which travels from Boston to Portland.

Food at the Westin Portland Harborview

Although there are lots of great food options available just steps from the hotel, I’d also recommend checking out the hotel’s restaurant Congress Squared at least once. On our first night, after a late lunch, we opted for room service for dinner. The food was delicious, and arrived quickly. On our second night, we took advantage of the fantastic Happy Hour Bar Menu and enjoyed oysters, burgers, and other small plates.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at the Westin Portland Harborview and would absolutely recommend staying there for your next Portland, Maine vacation. To learn more, visit the Westin Portland Harborview website. You can see more reviews about the  Westin Portland Harborview here
