We’ve always loved visiting North Conway NH and the White Mountains area. There’s so much for families to do in North Conway, especially in the summer, so it’s definitely worth visiting. Located just about 3 hours north of Boston, North Conway is a great long weekend destination for families. Last month, we visited North Conway and stayed at the North Conway Grand Hotel.

Review of the North Conway Grand Hotel
Location of the North Conway Grand Hotel
There are several different towns in the White Mountains region that you can stay in for a North Conway vacation. The North Conway Grand Hotel is located right in the town of North Conway, at the base of the Settlers Green Outlet Village.
Steps from the hotel is dozens of outlet shops, as well as restaurants. Even if outlet shopping isn’t the primary purpose of visiting North Conway, it’s still nice to be so close to the shops and restaurants in Settlers Green. There’s a side entrance of the hotel that you can walk out of to be right at the outlets.
The hotel is convenient to other North Conway activities, including Story Land, Attitash Mountain Resort, Cranmore Mountain, and Diana’s Baths. It’s right off the White Mountain Highway, so it’s easy to access from wherever you are driving from.
Rooms at the North Conway Grand Hotel
We planned a sort of last minute long weekend to North Conway, and had limited options for rooms to choose from. We ended up booking a room at the North Conway Grand with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa. The sleeper sofa, which fits one person, is the perfect option for a family like ours with a boy and a girl.
There are other room options offered, including king bed rooms with a sleeper sofa and a king room with a sleeper sofa and hot tub. Suites are also available, including junior suites, one-bedroom suites, and two-bedroom suites. These may be best for a longer stay, and when you want some additional room to spread out.
Our room was a good size for our family, although we didn’t spend too much time in the room. In addition to free WiFi, the room offered air conditioning, a desk, a television, and refrigerator and microwave. There is also a coffee maker in the room if you’d like to make in-room coffee, or complimentary coffee is available in the lobby. The room was very comfortable, and was about the same size as a standard hotel room.
Rooms also include DVD players. A library of DVDs is offered for guests to browse and borrow. This can be a great rainy day activity if the weather doesn’t cooperate with your plans.
The hotel has a bit of a rustic, mountain decor, although it’s still very modern. There are lots of wooden, log features, as well as stuffed bears throughout the property.
As you may expect with this type of family friendly hotel, it can be busy with lots of kids. A quick time starting at 10pm is enforced throughout the hotel. I found it to be very quiet in the evenings, despite the amount of kids staying there.
Amenities at the North Conway Grand Hotel
Families will love the family friendly amenities at the hotel. These include three indoor and outdoor pools. After spending the day at Attitash in the sun, my kids were thrilled to splash around in the outdoor pool for a while. In the cooler weather, it’s nice to have the indoor pool so you can still enjoy swimming even if the weather isn’t cooperating.
There’s a heated sun deck, an outdoor fire pit, hot tubs, and a pond. The lobby features a fireplace. During the afternoons, complimentary cookies, fruit punch, and lemonade were offered. There were also two beverage containers filled with water (one flavored and one plain) if you want to hydrate.
In addition, the hotel features a complimentary fitness center offering a few pieces of equipment, as well as an arcade. Men and women’s locker rooms are available, and include saunas. There’s also a spa offering limited treatments both in a treatment room and in the privacy of your own room.
If you have an electric car, there are a few charging areas available in the free parking lot. My husband drives a Prius Prime, and it was nice to be able to charge our car while we slept.
During our stay, there were lots of family friendly activities offered by the hotel. These included arts and crafts, an ice cream social, and movies in the movie room. I received a schedule of activities at check in and was pleased to see the types of movies offered. They included something for everyone – from little kid movies to PG 13 movies.
Planning to visit some of the local attractions? The front desk has discounted coupons to some of them, so stop by there first before making a purchase.
Restaurants at the North Conway Grand Hotel
The hotel offers two different dining locations – the Mountainside Restaurant and the Mountainside Tavern. The restaurant offers a breakfast/brunch buffet as well as dinner.
For a more casual dining experience, the Mountainside Tavern has appetizers and burgers as well as beverages. Both are located right off the lobby so they are easy to access.
Room service isn’t offered at the hotel. However, they can accommodate to-go orders, so you can pick up your food downstairs and bring it up to your room.
If you’d like to venture beyond the hotel, there are other restaurants within the Settlers Green Village. Closest is the brand new Fire by Wicked Fresh. It offers pizza and salads and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Fire is located right outside the side entrance of the hotel, so it’s extremely close and convenient.
There’s also Barley and Salt, a fun bar/restaurant offering a great drink menu as well as delicious food. We decided to eat there for dinner upon our arrival in North Conway, and really loved the food. They have a dining room, pub area with high top tables, and outdoor seating.
Within Settlers Green, there’s also the Black Cap Grille (which is across the street), an Applebee’s, a coffee bar, a cupcake shop, and two food kiosks. There are also dozens of delicious restaurants within driving distance, so you really will have lots of choices.
