Disney’s Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is one of my favorite holiday events at Walt Disney World. So, when I heard that the lights would be ending this year, I knew that I would have to experience them one more time. When booking our ADRs (advance dining reservations) for our Thanksgiving trip this year, I was surprised to find availability for the Merry and Bright Dessert Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Thanksgiving evening. We booked a late lunch at Sanaa (at Animal Kingdom Lodge) and the dessert party for 7pm.
What is the Merry and Bright Dessert Party?
The Merry and Bright Dessert Party is a special event being held this season at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It offers guests the opportunity to enjoy desserts and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) while enjoying the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. It’s held once per night for 90 minutes on select nights during the Christmas holiday season.
When and how much is the Merry and Bright Dessert Party?
The Merry and Bright Dessert Party is being held through December 30th, 2015 on most nights. It’s available for $69 per adult or $39 for children (ages 3 to 9) including tax and gratuity.
What’s included in the Merry and Bright Dessert Party?
Guests attending the party have access to all-you-care-to-eat desserts and beverages (alcoholic beverages subject to reasonable limits, of course). The desserts are fairly limited – when we were there, they included nutella bundt cakes, rice krispy treats, apple pie, pecan pie, cookies, buttered popcorn flavored ice cream (as well as a few others). Non alcoholic drinks including soda and juices are offered, as well as several seasonal mixed alcoholic beverages. There is not a full bar – just the seasonal beverages are offered. Guests can stay at the party for the full time enjoying the lights, and each receive a roll-up blanket customized for the event.
Where is the Merry and Bright Dessert Party located?
The party is located right at the front of the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights, under the “Peace on Earth” globe. Guests receive a sticker for their shirt that permits in and out access to the party.
Can I attend the Merry and Bright Dessert Party if I have food allergies?
Absolutely – my daughter has a tree nut allergy, and was still able to enjoy treats. We noted her allergy on our reservation, and spoke to the chef when we arrived. She went in the back and prepared an allergy-friendly box of treats, as well as a small fruit plate for my daughter (items are subject to availability).
Is the Merry and Bright Dessert Party worth it?
Honestly, it really depends. The desserts themselves are not worth the money, but I loved being able to sit at the head of the lights and enjoy them without crowds. I’ve never been able to sit and observe the whole rotation of songs. If you think you will sit and enjoy them, it may be worth it for you!
Any tips for attending the Merry and Bright Dessert Party?
Definitely arrive early to stake out a good table. There are several tables that don’t have the best view. Also, don’t wait until the end of the party to get your blanket. When we got ours, there were only two colors left.
