Disclosure: We received a free BubbleBum inflatable booster seat for review, and the Amazon link is an affiliate link. I purchased an additional one on my own because I loved it so much.
Once my daughter started kindergarten last year, she started spending lots of time in other parents’ cars – going from soccer, to T-ball, to gymnastics, and to playdates. I’m often asked if I have an extra booster – something I should, but don’t have. So, when I learned about BubbleBum, an award-winning portable, lightweight, US Federal Safety Standard Approved, inflatable car booster seat, I was intrigued. If this really was as great as it seemed, it would really be a fabulous “extra” booster to have on hand for home and for travel!
The BubbleBum Inflatable Booster Seat Review
The BubbleBum is surprisingly durable, and very portable. While it originally only came in purple, it’s now offered in different colors and patterns. If you have kids like mine, who always like their own thing, it’s a great idea to purchase two different colors/patterns so they know which one is theirs. The BubbleBum inflatable booster seat is meant for kids over the age of three (preferably four) who are from forty to eighty pounds, and who can stay off their knees for the entire car ride.
I’ll admit, I had a few safety concerns when I heard about this, but the BubbleBum has some fabulous safety information on their site which made me feel that it really is safe. It’s also so easy to use – just inflate by blowing into the valve (takes about half a minute), then install it in your car with the car’s lap belt. It’s a very durable material – not what you may think of when you hear inflatable. It’s not fragile.
While I think of the BubbleBum as a spare seat, it can be used as a primary seat. Its small size makes older kids more happy to use than a larger seat. We typically bring ours along on vacation to use in a rental car. It deflates easily and can be tucked into a suitcase. Then, while one of us is at the rental car counter, the other one is blowing up the BubbleBum inflatable booster seats. Because it’s small, you can fit three across the back of most seats – even my small Prius.
