A kids’ pajama party while mom and dad dine at one of Scottsdale’s hottest restaurants? A fun scavenger hunt that brings the kids all around the beautiful resort? A check-in room especially for kids? We got all of this and more during our stay at the Westin Kierland Resort, a luxury resort located in North Scottsdale. There are so many things to do at the Westin Kierland Resort, and we had a fantastic time during our stay.
The Westin Kierland Resort manages to cater to both business travelers and families – a rare and amazing combination. Families start their vacation by checking in at the Kierland Mining Company, a special check-in room dedicated especially to those with kids. There, you’ll learn about the kid-friendly programming, and receive a special scavenger hunt booklet with lanyard. Kids can visit various spots around the property to engage in activities and get a stamp in their book. At the end of their trip, they’ll receive a lanyard pin for each stamp they get.
The Westin Kierland Resort also offers some great kid programming, like the evening pajama party (free for Starwoods Preferred guests who dine at the on-site deseo), where our children watched a movie, roasted s’mores, participated in a dance party, and decorated shirts, all while my husband and I ate at deseo. My children also participated in the popular “Kids in the Kitchen” program, and were able to bake cookies with the chef at the Westin. It was a fabulous opportunity for them, and they just loved it.
Other programming includes evening s’more roasting, nightly bagpipes at sunset, and specialty programming, like a Phoenix Zoo presentation we attended. The zoo brought animals to one of the hotel’s conference rooms, and my kids enjoyed getting a hand-on look!
The pool area at the Westin Kierland Resort is also very kid-friendly, and offers many family activities throughout the day. My kids especially enjoyed the lazy river – we just went around and around!
Rooms at the Westin are a nice size, and include the popular Heavenly Shower and Heavenly Bed. Suites and villas are also available for those who need more space – although you definitely won’t be spending too much time in your room, because there are so many great things to do in Phoenix with kids!
