Review of the InterContinental New York Times Square Hotel

Living in the Boston area, we are close enough to New York City that we’ve been lucky to visit several times as a family. New York City is huge, with loads of hotel options including boutique hotels, pod hotels, luxury hotels, and suite hotels. During our Adventures by Disney New York City trip, we had the pleasure of staying at the InterContinental New York Times Square Hotel. This family-friendly hotel is in the perfect location for a NYC family vacation, and is convenient to so many restaurants, shops, and attractions.

Disclosure: Our stay at the InterContinental Times Square was complimentary during our Adventures by Disney New York City media trip. All opinions are my own.

The exterior of the Intercontinental Times Square in Manhattan

The Intercontinental is located right near Times Square, in the heart of Broadway. This 36 story hotel is located on 44th Street and 8th Avenue in Midtown. It’s pretty easy to get a cab from this location, and it’s also easy to walk to many New York City attractions, including Times Square and the Broadway theaters. It’s also right near the subway.

Staying in Times Square can be lots of fun, but it’s also extremely busy. My family loves the hustle and bustle of the area, but others may prefer a quieter location.

Rooms at the InterContinental New York Times Square Hotel

Rooms in New York City can definitely be small, but we loved our room at the InterContinental Times Square. There are a few different room types, depending on what your needs are. Keep in mind that you won’t be spending too much time in the rooms – you’ll probably prefer to explore the city!

We had a deluxe room with double beds and gorgeous views of the Manhattan skyline with the floor to ceiling windows. Our room featured the following amenities:

  • Keurig coffee maker with coffee and tea
  • Flat screen television (although we really didn’t have time to watch television)
  • Spa inspired bathroom with rain showers (we absolutely loved this!)
  • Lighted makeup mirror
  • iHome iPod docking station
  • Lots of outlets and USB ports
  • Mini bar
  • Hairdryer
  • In-room robes and slippers
  • WiFi
  • Beautiful views of the city
  • Super comfortable beds and linens
  • A comfortable chair with small table
  • A nice desk with plenty of outlets
  • Agraria bath amenities

The hotel offers superior rooms, deluxe rooms, sky view rooms, corner view rooms, family studio suites, avenue studio suites, the Manhattan suite, and the Penthouse suite.

Superior Rooms are on the 3rd-7th floors and are 350 square feet. They are available with both one king bed or two double beds. Views include Times Square, the Broadway theater district, and Hell’s Kitchen.

Deluxe Rooms are on the 3rd-19th floor and are 350-420 square feet. They are available with both two double beds or one king bed. Views include the Hudson River, Times Square, and the Broadway theater district.

Skyview Rooms are on the 20th – 36rd floor and are 350 square feet. Views are the best on these floors, because they are on the highest levels of the hotel. They include views of Central Park, the Hudson River, and downtown Manhattan.

Corner View Rooms have corner views with windows on two sides. These rooms are 320-350 square feet, and offer either two double beds or one king bed.

Family and Avenue Studio Suites have one king bed with a pullout double bed. There’s a partition separating the lounge area. Family studio suites are 550 square feet.

The Manhattan and Penthouse Suites are larger suites with loads of room for a special NYC vacation.

Amenities at the InterContinental New York Times Square Hotel

In addition to the in-room amenities, the InterContinental Hotel New York Times Square has a number of other amenities.

The hotel offers fabulous service. We didn’t encounter any issues during our stay, and found the staff to be so friendly. From the front desk staff who were helpful and efficient to the doormen who always greeted us with a smile, we really enjoyed interacting with the staff. Valet parking is also offered if you drive into the city.

If you are headed out for a special occasion, or just want a treat, you can get hair and makeup service right in your room. Services are offered through NOMI Beauty.

The hotel also has a full fitness center that is open 24/7. There’s a business center that is also open 24/7, as well as meeting facilities. We didn’t see many of the meeting facilities during my stay, but did eat in the private dining room several times, and found the staff to be very helpful.

In the lobby, you’ll find a concierge that can help with arranging dinner reservations or coordinating any activities that you want to plan. This can be especially helpful in NYC where you may need reservations for some of the most popular restaurants. I also typically will ask the concierge about family-friendly options in the area, since it can sometimes be touch to tell.

If you are hungry while in your room, 24/7 room service is offered. We ordered room service on one of the nights of our stay, because we were busy getting ready to see Frozen on Broadway. The food, from the hotel’s on site restaurant, is absolutely delicious. It was delivered quickly. Some items are available all day, while some aren’t offered during the night time hours.

InterContinental New York Times Square Restaurant

The InterContinental is home to a lobby restaurant, Stinger Cocktail Bar and Kitchen by Chef Todd English. We dined there on our first night and loved our meal. The craft/bespoke cocktails offered by the restaurant are completely unique, and many of them come in three different size options. Even if you aren’t staying at the Intercontinental, it’s worth stopping by for a drink before seeing a Broadway show.

The restaurant also offers delicious small plates and entrees. We were there for a light dinner after our evening activities on our Adventures by Disney New York City trip. I started with the Barbee Doll, a signature cocktail that includes “Bombay Sapphire East Gin, muddled with fresh ginger & housemade strawberry coulis shaken St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur topped with Chandon Sparkling Rosé”. It was delicious. My daughter had the non-alcoholic Perfect Stranger – “Fresh raspberries & lemon juice, raspberry syrup, Fever-Tree Ginger Ale”.

For food, I ordered the Octopus Sashimi Style, while my daughter had the Blue Cheese Stuffed Buffalo Chicken Meatballs. We both loved our food, and the small plates were the perfect sized portion for our late dinner/snack.

The Stinger is open from 11am-1am, and accepts reservations for parties of 5 or more. It wasn’t too crowded when we were there on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm. But I’d imagine it can be busy during weekends, especially around showtime.

Restaurants Near the InterContinental New York Times Square

Even though the Stinger is delicious, you’ll probably want to visit other restaurants during your stay. There are so many great NYC restaurant options within quick walking distance of the InterContinental, including the Shake Shack, John’s Pizzeria, City Kitchen, and Carmine’s.
