My family loves visiting water parks. With the unpredictable weather in the Northeast, we often find that it’s best to visit an indoor water park, including some hotels with indoor water parks. It’s a great way to combine a family vacation with some water park fun.
Although there are a number of indoor water parks near me, there are also many located throughout the country. Typically, you’ll find indoor water parks in parts of the country where a year round outdoor water park isn’t feasible due to weather. Here are some of the best indoor water parks for families – did we include your favorite?

Indoor Water Parks at Resorts For Families
Arguably the most popular of the indoor water parks is the Great Wolf Lodge chain. This chain is consistently fun, and offers so much more in addition to their signature water park.
The Great Wolf Lodge has a variety of locations throughout the United States (and one in Canada). Here’s where you’ll find the current locations:
Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina
Cincinnati/ Mason, OH
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Grand Mound, Washington
Grapevine, Texas (near Dallas)
Kansas City, Kansas
Niagara Falls, Canada
Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania
Traverse City, Michigan
Wisconsin Dells, WI
There’s also a location opening soon in Scottsdale, AZ.
All of the Great Wolf Lodge locations offer a variety of fun activities for families, but they all vary a bit. Some of the activities you’ll find include the MagiQuest Game, bowling, a ropes course, mini golf, a kids’ spa, and an arcade.
A Paw Pass is offered at each resort which offers a bundle price for the most popular activities as well as merchandise. This can be a great way to save money on your trip if you already plan to purchase these items.
The resorts also offers special events throughout the year, including Howl-O-Ween during the Halloween season and Snowland during the Christmas holiday season.
Within the water park, you’ll find a variety of different slides, including family raft rides, water slides, hot tubs, lazy rivers, and more. Every indoor water park within the Great Wolf Lodge offers a huge signature tipping bucket that will soak those below when it tips.
While the Great Wolf Lodge water parks were originally only open to those who were staying at the resort, day passes are now being offered. These are a great option if you live in the area and want to try out the park.
Six Flags Great Escape Lodge, Lake George, NY
Located in upstate New York, is the Great Escape Lodge, an indoor water park resort located adjacent to the Great Escape Six Flags in Lake George. We’ve visited this resort twice – once while we were staying nearby, and once when we stayed right at the resort.
The hotel features fun rooms for kids, including some with a little log cabin built right into the room. There are also several restaurants on site, so you really won’t have to leave the resort much.
Of course, the most popular attraction at this resort is the indoor water park. Guests staying at the resort receive complimentary admission during their stay, while day passes are also offered.
The indoor water park features the following:
- Lazy River
- White water rafting ride
- Surfing area
- Raft water slides
- Adult only hot tub
- Treehouse play area
- Kids’ water activity area
This would be a fun vacation spot if you were planning to ski in the local area, or if you are planning a day at Six Flags.
Another chain of indoor water parks is Kalahari Resorts, which has the following locations:
- Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
- Sandusky, Ohio
- Poconos, PA (America’s largest indoor water park)
- New location coming soon in Round Rock, Texas
These indoor waterparks are always 84 degrees inside, and include water slides, wave pools, raft rides, kids’ activity areas, and more. The resorts also offer seasonal outdoor water parks.
The resorts also offer various amenities including the indoor and outdoor water parks. These vary by location but include ropes courses, spas, an escape room, arcades, and more. You’ll want to check out the details of the specific location that you are visiting to see what they offer.
Red Jacket Mountain View Resort, North Conway, NH
We love visiting North Conway, NH, and one of our favorite resorts there is the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort, which offers the Kahuna Laguna Water Park. This park is 40,000 square feet and was recently ranked in the top 10 of indoor water parks for families in the United States.
When we first visited the water park, it was open only to guests of the resort. However, like the Great Wolf Lodge, it’s now open to non-resort guests. You’ll need to purchase a day pass for a specific day (they are limited), so it’s a good idea to purchase in advance of your visit.
Even if you are staying at the resort, you’ll need to pay a separate admission fee to the water park. So, you’ll want to plan your visit for a longer period of time, rather than just popping in part of each day.
The Kahuna Laguna Indoor water park features the following rides and attractions:
- A water slide tower with 2 body slides and 2 tube slides
- The Wiki Wave pool
- A play tower with a tipping bucket
- A splash pad
- The Little Kahuna play area for young kids
- Kahuna water basketball court
- Hot tub
- Cafe and arcade
SoundWaves at the Gaylord Opryland Resort
I have always loved my stays at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee. When I learned that they were opening an indoor and outdoor waterpark on the premises, I couldn’t believe that they were going to make that amazing resort even bigger.
The SoundWaves Water Park is 4 acres, and includes indoor and outdoor water park. The attractions include a double FlowRider, a slide tower, and activities pool, a lazy river, a rapids river, a splash pad, and more.
Admission to the SoundWaves is capped, and the only way to guarantee admission for your family is to purchase the specific SoundWaves hotel package through the resort.
The Wilderness Resort, Wisconsin Dells, WI
This resort, located in the waterpark capital of the world, includes four indoor and four outdoor waterparks and three different properties. There is transportation that can take you across the various properties.
Activities include bumper boats, raft rides, play features, hot tubs, a lazy river, wave pool, and more. There are other attractions at the resorts in addition to the water park activities. These include zip lines, go karts, ropes course, escape rooms, mini golf, and laser tag.
Indoor Water Park Tips
Here are some tips you may need when visiting a indoor water park.
While you may not think you need sunscreen when indoors, some of these parks have glass ceilings where sun can come in. Depending on the specific location, you may want to pack that sunscreen.
Check in advance to see if the park you are visiting offers towels. In some cases, towels are offered but can’t be brought back to the rooms.
Some parks offer admission on the day of your check in and on the day you check out. In that case, you may want to pack a small day bag for your arrival so you can head right to the water park.
Indoor Water Park Packing Tips
Wondering what to bring to an indoor water park? Here are some things to buy and bring with you (in addition to your regular packing list).
- A wet bag to carry your wet bathing suits home
- Large beach towels in case your resort doesn’t offer them
- A beach bag to fill with your waterpark stuff
- Goggles for the pools
- Water shoes for the water park so you don’t have to go barefoot
- Cover ups so you can go back and forth to your room
