We love visiting Lake George New York. It’s a great place to visit with your family in both the winter and summer months, with so much for families to do. It’s also a nice road trip from our home in Massachusetts.
During our ski family vacation in Lake George, NY, we were hosted by the Holiday Inn Lake George – Turf (which is now known as the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George – Water View), located just a short distance from Lake George Village in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.

If you’ve ever been to Lake George, NY in the winter, you probably already know that there is a limited amount of hotels that are even open beyond the popular summer season. So finding one as nice as the Holiday Inn Lake George was a huge bonus for our family.
While it is a chain hotel, there is so much that families will love. It’s affordable, convenient, clean, and fun – perfect for families. Holiday Inn is one of the family-friendly hotel chains that I’ve always enjoyed visiting, because the locations that I’ve visited are all consistently solid.

Location of the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George
The Holiday Inn Resort Lake George is conveniently located on US Rt 9, just steps from the Lake George Village, and 5 miles from the Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom. Nearby cities include Glens Falls and Saratoga. It’s a quick ride off the highway, if you are road tripping. The Holiday Inn Lake George is not right on Lake George, but does offer beautiful views of the lake from parts of the hotel.
The attractions and activities in Lake George are all nearby, but aren’t within walking distance of the hotel. You will need a car for your vacation – which is truly for any Lake George area vacation.
Rooms at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George
The thing that I liked most about the Holiday Inn Lake George Resort is the accommodations. We were very comfortable in our room.
There are several different room options available at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George, including guestrooms and suites. These options include double queen bed rooms, king rooms, luxury suites, and KidSuites. There are a total of 129 guestrooms, with 24 suites.
During our visit, we had a luxury suite, which included one bedroom, with a living room with a pull out couch and two flat-screen televisions. Amenities in this room type include a microwave, refrigerator, coffee/tea maker, complimentary bottled water, hair dryer, internet access, and more.
If you enjoy having extra room for your family, it’s a great option. Suites are located on the 3rd floor and have views of the lake. They are definitely worth the extra fee, especially when traveling with kids.
The Holiday Inn Resort Lake George also offers new KidSuites, which have a small room within a room. The small room includes bunk beds, so that kids have their own space to relax and make their own while parents can enjoy their space. The adult space includes the amenities of a regular hotel room. This can be a nice option for those with younger kids.
The hotel also offers standard hotel rooms. These also include refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers, as well as comfortable beds, WiFI, and complimentary bottled water.
Amenities at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George
The Holiday Inn Resort Lake George offers a number of great family-friendly amenities throughout the year. While we were there, we enjoyed using the complimentary WiFi, 24-hour fitness center and the indoor pool. There aren’t too many Lake George hotels with an indoor pool, so it’s nice to have that amenity available, especially in the winter.
If your visit is during the warmer weather, there are lots of great outdoor family-friendly activities to enjoy. These include on-site miniature golf, a basketball court, an outdoor pool, lawn chess, and shuffleboard.
There are also children’s activities, outdoor big screen movies, and fireworks by the fire pit every Thursday night. While our visit was during the winter, I think it would be so much fun to visit during the summer. In addition to the lake, there’s also the Six Flags Great Escape park which is open in the warmer months.
Food at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George
Kids 12 and under staying at the hotel eat free at the onsite restaurant, TR’s Restaurant (with paying adults). This is standard throughout the Holiday Inn chain, and a great value for families.
TR’s Restaurant, which is named for Theodore Roosevelt, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so you’ll have lots of options. Room service is also available from TR’s, if you’d prefer to eat in your room.
Entrees include burgers, pasta, steak, and fish. There are also nightly specials offered. Within TR’s Restaurant is TR’s Lounge, where you’ll find wine, craft beers, and delicious appetizers. TR’s Lounge has a number of televisions where you can watch any games that may be on during your stay. While there are other restaurants in the area, TRs is a nice option if you want to stay nearby.
We ate there during our trip, and enjoyed our meal. With the kids eat free promotion, it was a great bargain.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Resort Lake George, and would definitely stay there again on future trips to Lake George.
