Family vacations are a wonderful way for families to spend some quality time, and sometimes you want to stay in a place where mom, dad, and the kids all have relaxing and fun things to do. Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa in Stowe, Vermont is just that resort.

Review of Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa

While Stoweflake is popular with girls’ weekends away and corporate retreats, it’s also a wonderful locale for family vacations.  The local area offers skiing, alpine sliding, mini golf, zip lining, and factory tours (including Ben & Jerry’s!).  There’s so much to do, although you could also just relax too. While I typically love visiting the Stowe area in the summer, it’s also a popular destination in the winter, especially if you enjoy skiing and other winter sports.

The Rooms at Stoweflake

The hotel rooms at Stoweflake are nice and comfortable. They include a gas fireplace, refrigerator, and fabulous bath amenities (from the spa). When I initially visited, they didn’t offer WiFi, but now, their website states that they have complimentary WiFi. I find the rooms to be cozy – although they aren’t small. The fireplace really adds to the warmth of the room.

In addition to the classic guest rooms (which accommodate only 2 guests), there are also deluxe guests rooms that accommodate up to 4 guests and have either one king bed or two double beds. Other guest room types include luxury guest rooms and premiere guest rooms. These have more space than the classic and deluxe rooms.

Stoweflake also offers one-bedroom suites, townhouses, and a ski house. These are great for families who need more space during their family vacation.

The Spa at Stoweflake

My favorite amenity at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa is the spa – easily the nicest spa I’ve ever visited.  With a relaxing waiting area, a fabulous spa shop, and a co-ed Aqua Solarium (complete with mineral soaking tub and waterfall), you’ll want to spend all day here.  There are thirty treatment rooms, a fitness center, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, and a beautiful courtyard.  My kids loved hanging out in the courtyard – picking blueberries and checking out the flowers.

Of course, they didn’t spend time in the spa. My husband watched the kids while I enjoyed a few hours at the spa, and it was just the relaxing morning that I needed.

There’s also a full service salon offer hair cuts, hair coloring, waxing, nail services and more.

Stoweflake also offers a great sports and fitness center that is complimentary to guests (and offered to others on a membership basis), although an additional fee does apply to certain activities. The fitness center includes a spinning studio, indoor and outdoor pools, Cybex fitness center, women’s fitness room, steam room and sauna, and much more.

The resort also offers an executive 9-hole golf course as well as a putting green. Tennis courts are also available. Kids aren’t allowed in some of the fitness areas, however.

The Food at Stoweflake

While there are some great restaurants in the Stowe area, there is a delicious option right on property. We checked out Charlie B’s, a casual pub-style family-friendly restaurant for both breakfast and dinner and the food was great. Sometimes it’s nice to just be able to eat on property and relax, especially if the weather isn’t great.

During our first visit, there was a second restaurant, named Winfield’s, located adjacent to Charlie B’s. Now, Charlie B’s has expanded to include that area.

There’s also the poolside spa cafe offering food that appeals to the whole family, including sandwiches, salads, and burgers. A kids’ menu is also available.

Traveling with your dog? There are some pet friendly rooms at Stoweflake, but there are some restrictions. You’ll need to call the resort directly to book those.

If you are staying in Stowe, there are plenty of activities to keep the family entertained. We definitely recommend a trip to the Ben and Jerry’s Factory, as well as the Cold Hollow Cider Mill.
