Back in June, I had the opportunity to visit the family-friendly Martinhal Resorts in Portugal. I was so impressed with how the resorts cater to families, while also offering a luxurious travel experience, and can’t wait to return to Portugal to experience them with my children. Martinhal just opened their newest resort, a family-friendly suite hotel in Lisbon, Portugal. It’s sure to be a favorite among families visiting Lisbon with their kids.
Disclosure: I toured the not-yet-finished Martinhal Chiado Family Suites during my press trip to Portugal with Martinhal. All opinions are my own.
The Martinhal Chiado Family Suites offers 37 luxurious apartments decorated in the signature Martinhal style – clean lines, coastal colors, and kid-friendly features. I loved all of the Martinhal furniture when I visited, because it was so stylish but also appropriate for those with young children. The resort is located in the trendy Chiado district of Lisbon, in a completely modernized 19th-century building.
Accommodations at the hotel range from studios to two-bedroom apartments. In-room features include kitchens, balconies, bunk beds (in some rooms), hair dryers, washer dryers, and complimentary WiFi. The kitchen is a great option for families, although Lisbon does have many delicious restaurants that are also worth checking out. The hotel also offers their signature kids’ club with activities for children aged six months to early teens. The popular “pygama club” (childcare services each evening until midnight) is offered at the Chiado property so that parents can enjoy a night out in downtown Lisbon. The hotel also offers a family cafe, called the M Bar, which serves complimentary breakfast. In addition, you can get lunch and dinner at the M Bar.
For those families that need additional items, like bottle warmers, high chairs, or cribs, the Martinhal baby concierge can help you arrange for those. That’s especially helpful for those families traveling overseas, because you won’t have to carry everything that you need. If you do decide to travel to other parts of Portugal, the other Martinhal Resorts (in Cascais, Quinto, and Sagres) also have baby concierges.
There’s plenty to do in Lisbon with kids, including the Lisbon Zoo, and the Oceanarium. Families will also love the Martinhal recommendation of The HIPPOtrip – a sightseeing tour that transforms into a boat.
