I travel frequently, which means that my suitcases travel often as well. When your luggage is handled by airlines and cruise ships, it definitely needs to be durable. Our checked luggage just doesn’t seem to last as long as our carry on bags. When buying suitcases for family travel, you need suitcases that are roomy inside, lightweight, easy to pull, and are durable.

When Eagle Creek contacted us to do a review of their products, I immediately chose my two favorite pieces – the Expanse Uprights in the 26 inch and the International Carry-on sizes. I needed a new 26-inch suitcase after the piece I got for my wedding (over 16 years ago!) finally became unusable. We also were in need of an international-sized carry-on for our travel overseas (international carry-ons are smaller than traditional sized carry-on bags).
When I look for luggage, I look for the following features:
- Easy to pull wheels (heavy luggage can be even more challenging to pull if the wheels aren’t great)
- Bright colors (easier to spot in the baggage carousel)
- Lightweight (a lighter suitcase means that you can pack more stuff and stay under the baggage limit)
- Durable materials (bags go through a LOT of handling)
- Expandable (we always come back with more stuff than we started with)
I’m so pleased that our new Eagle Creek products are the perfect luggage for family travel. The 26-inch bag measures 16.75 x 26 x 12.25 in and expands to 16.75 x 26 x 14.5 in. The bag includes #10 lockable, self-repairing zippers, and external lash points (to secure to a roof rack or attach gear). The quality is definitely nice – it’s a soft bag, but definitely feels very durable and strong.
The international carry-on sized bag measures 13.75 x 21.5 x 8 in, and includes some great features, including a padded tablet sleeve and a mesh ID pocket. It’s easy to tote around the airport with you, and most importantly, it should fit in the overhead compartment of international flights.
Eagle Creek also offers other bag types within the Expanse line, including a collection with AWD wheels, flatbeds, and convertibles. To learn more, visit the Eagle Creek website.
