Food is always a huge part of any travel experience. When I recently attended Travel Media Showcase in Grapevine, Texas, and was given the choice of afternoon tours, I immediately chose to do the food tour. I wanted to try out the various foods and drinks in Grapevine, and was definitely not disappointed.
Grapevine, Texas, located between Dallas and Fort Worth, has a quaint downtown and lots of family-friendly hotels and attractions, including the Rainforest Cafe, the Great Wolf Lodge, and the Gaylord Texan. It’s also right near the DFW airport (which is actually located right in Grapevine), so if you have a long layover, it could be worth the trip, especially for the food. Here are the restaurants we checked out on the food tour.
Delicious Food in Grapevine, Texas
I absolutely had to have BBQ in Texas, and Meat U Anywhere was absolutely delicious. It’s a small restaurant with just a few tables, but the food is excellent. My favorites were the mac and cheese, brisket, and pulled pork. They also sell their own seasonings and bottled water.
In addition to delicious Mexican cuisine, Mi Dia also offers dozens of fabulous drinks. I tried their house margarita with salt on the rocks, and it was yummy. We also tried a few different apps, including their signature tableside guacamole. Offered with bacon on top, it was definitely a delicious part of our food tour.
Winewood Grill, which is located adjacent to Mi Dia, offers upscale American food. We got to sample a few appetizers, and my favorites were the mac and cheese (made with smoked gouda), seared Ahi tuna (served on wonton crisps), and spinach dip.
At Tolbert’s, which is located right in downtown Grapevine, we sampled some delicious bar bites, including donkey tails – one of their specialties. Tolbert’s also has a full bar menu, and they offer live entertainment in the evenings.
Our final stop was to Dr. Sue’s Chocolate, also located downtown in Grapevine. Dr. Sue, who is a practicing physician, offers a variety of delicious chocolate products made from non-GMO dark chocolate. The shop has a variety of samples on hand, of a variety of flavors.
