Now is a great time to plan your family vacations for next year! First though, you’ll need to decide where to go on vacation with your family. Everyone’s idea of the perfect family vacation is different, so you’ll need to figure out the best trip possible for your family. Is it a theme park vacation? Would you prefer to camp in a National Park? Do you enjoy relaxing on the beach? Do you want to explore an international city?
Start by getting the whole family involved, right at the beginning. Planning a family vacation can be a fabulous learning experience, and letting your kids feel like they are a part of it is empowering to them. Brainstorm the perfect family vacation, and don’t make any restrictions on what can be included in the list. While not every destination will be practical for this first trip, you’ll have a good family vacation wish list for the future.
While you can only go on one vacation right now, there’s no need to limit yourself at first. Go old school by cutting out pictures from a magazine and printing stuff from your computer and make a family vacation bucket list. Alternatively, you could use a tool like Pinterest to create a virtual board of vacation destinations. Here is our Pinterest board – we are constantly adding to it!
When narrowing down your list, there are a few things to consider:
- Time of year that you can travel. Look at school and work schedules and decide when you can realistically take this family vacation.
- Type of vacation. What did you decide is the best type of trip to take this time?
- Your family vacation budget. You may not be able to afford that three week Mediterranean cruise for this trip, but you should know exactly what you want to spend.
Now that you know where to go – or have a list of two or three places, think about what types of things you’ll want to do on your trip. Will you be visiting theme parks, museums, or other attractions/activities that charge admission? This is important for the next step – when you start budgeting for your family vacation.
