Review of the Blue Man Group Boston, a family-friendly show that is great for any families visiting Boston.
Disclosure: We received complimentary tickets to review the Blue Man Group Boston.
Despite living in the Boston area for over twenty years, I had never seen the incredibly popular Blue Man Group. I had always intended to, but it never worked out. This year, during the President’s Day holiday weekend, my son and I headed to Blue Man Group Boston to check out the show. In addition to this Blue Man Group Boston review, we also have a great giveaway (see the end of the post).
Blue Man Group Boston Review
My son and I attended the 5pm show, and arrived at about 4:10pm. Shortly after we arrived, we were let into the lounge which offers a full bar with packaged snacks, as well as an interactive music/light creation called the “Lounge-U-Lum”. There’s also a kiosk where you can take a Blue Man Group photo to send via email or post on social media. Items purchased at the bar can be brought directly to your seats. There’s also a bar upstairs by the theater.
The Charles Playhouse is pretty small, so regardless of where you sit, you’ll be pretty close to the stage. We were in section C, which is the second level of the orchestra, and loved our seats. Those who sit in the first section of the orchestra are provided with plastic ponchos to wear, so keep that in mind when booking seats.
Blue Man Group Boston runs about 90 minutes, and there’s no intermission. So those with young children should definitely keep that in mind, and use the restroom (located in the lounge) right before the show starts.
It’s challenging to describe the show, because it’s not like something I’ve ever seen before. We absolutely loved it. It features music and comedy, and is completely family friendly. The Blue Men don’t talk, but they still manage to completely communicate with the audience. Right after the show ended, my son asked if we could return to see the Blue Men again. It’s definitely a fun activities with families – I definitely recommend it. Keep in mind that it does get a little loud, and there are some strobe lights. For those looking for a more sensory-friendly performance, the Blue Man Group Boston (as well as the other locations) offer special performances in conjunction with Autism Speaks. See their website for more information.
After the show, the Blue Men head to the lounge area for photos with attendees. My son was thrilled to be able to take this picture with one of the Blue Men.
