When I was invited to attend the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica as a guest of Aveeno, I was actually more excited about the prospect of staying at the famous Shutters on the Beach than I was with attending the awards. Shutters is infamous – and after the horrific winter in the Northeast, I was more than excited to check out the beach.
Disclosure: My stay was complimentary as part of the event I attended.
Unfortunately for me, the weather in Santa Monica was chilly, but Shutters on the Beach was just as incredible as I imagined. From the moment I walked in the door to the moment I left, I was enveloped in casual luxury.
This was a rather short trip for me, so I didn’t have the opportunity to experience any of the Shutters amenities. But, I did get to enjoy the amazing atmosphere. When I arrived bright and early from the East Coast, my room wasn’t ready, but the staff was very helpful in holding my luggage and offering me a place to freshen up. When my room was ready, I immediately headed in and was so impressed by how gorgeous the room was. Rooms at Shutters on the Beach have a casual beach house vibe to them, but are loaded up with amenities. I especially loved the fantastic bathtub, which was perfect after a long day.
My bed, which was easily the highest bed I’ve ever slept on, was incredibly comfortable. I did have a difficult time shutting my balcony door and after calling the front desk, the situation was remedied immediately. The balcony had a nice view of the Santa Monica pier, and I know that some of the other rooms had gorgeous beach-front views. Turn down service is available.
As the name suggests, Shutters is literally right on the beach, and is a huge hot spot. We saw a few celebrities in the lobby, which was buzzing from morning to night. It’s really a place that any hotel lover should visit at some point.
