After visiting the gorgeous Atlantis Hotel Bahamas in Paradise Island Bahamas last month, I know that it’s a great place for families to visit. There’s so much to do, including the world-famous Aquaventure water park, the amazing aquarium, and the beautiful, serene beaches.
It’s a dream family vacation location. It may be a cliche, but it’s true that there really is something for everyone at Atlantis Bahamas Resort. With so much to do, no one will be bored on your family vacation. In fact, you’ll probably wish you had more time to continue exploring the resort.
But, an Atlantis vacation definitely isn’t a budget vacation. For many families, it will be a huge splurge. It can be very expensive for a family vacation, like many luxury Caribbean vacations. However, there are some things you can do to save money and still have a fantastic time on your vacation – without impacting your enjoyment of the trip. Here are my suggestions for experiencing Atlantis Bahamas on a budget.
Atlantis Bahamas on a Budget
Atlantis Bahamas Tips: Save on food
You’ll likely eat all of your meals at Atlantis, and the costs can definitely add up. Save money by planning your meals carefully. If you think you’ll want to prepare some of your own meals, get a room at the family-friendly Reef Tower, which includes mini kitchens. They are a bit more expensive per night but you are likely to save money if you prepare a lot of your own meals.
Food can be purchased at the sundry shop, or there is a food market nearby. When we travel on vacation, we typically bring along our own cereal bars for breakfast, so that we can save money on at least one meal per day.
You can also save money by eating at some of the less expensive restaurants on property. There’s a Johnny Rockets, Quiznos, and Starbucks, as well as some restaurants offering family-style servings (Virgils BBQ and Carmine’s).
The resort does offer an all-inclusive package as well, so it’s worth looking at it to see if worthwhile. Do the math in advance to figure how much you are likely to spend without the package.
Travel during a slower time
Like most vacation destinations, you can save money on an Atlantis vacation by traveling during an off-peak time. There are lots of specials that are currently being offering now. The fall months (excluding Thanksgiving), can be less expensive, but keep in mind that some of the restaurants on property are closed during these slower times. It’s also during the school year, so it may be more difficult to find a good time to travel.
But if you are flexible, you can definitely take advantage of lower rates. The Caribbean can be really nice in late summer/early fall, because the water is so warm and the crowds are slower. Just keep in mind that it is hurricane season.
Choose your accommodations wisely
Atlantis Hotel Bahamas offers lots of different lodging options in several different towers. Choose your accommodations based on your budget, and the type of vacation you want to enjoy. The Reef and Cove are the most expensive towers, but with mini kitchens included, the Reef can be a better option for families.
If you do book a room at the Reef, make sure that you definitely take advantage of the kitchen. You’ll want to use the kitchen enough times to justify the higher room rate.
Stay at the Comfort Suites
Another fantastic option for saving money on an Atlantis Bahamas vacation is the nearby Comfort Suites Paradise Island, located across the street from the Royal Towers. The Comfort Suites is not owned and operated by Atlantis, but does have the benefit of including Atlantis Aquaventure water park passes with a stay.
With a hot daily breakfast also included, it can be a great deal for families who want to experience Atlantis. It’s very close to the property, and you can easily walk over each morning to take advantage of the amenities.
One final note, if you do travel to Atlantis Bahamas, it’s definitely worth bringing along your own sand toys and other things that your kids may want to purchase there. As you’d expect, it’s expensive to buy things on property.
