Just in time for the opening of Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World, Disney has launched a brand-new app. The new Disney Play app is now available for download. It’s the perfect way to bring the magic of Walt Disney World and Disneyland to your home, or to make your Disney vacation just a little more magical. It’s also a great way to spend time while you are in the queues, waiting to experience an attraction.
I am a former member of the Disney Parks Moms Panel and have been on some complimentary press trips at Walt Disney World, but all opinions are my own. I have not been asked to write this post and was not compensated for it.
All About the New Disney Play App
Before we talk about what the new Disney Play app is, there are a few things it does NOT do:
- You cannot make or modify any reservations (dining, FastPass+, or hotel) in the app
- The app does not provide park hours or showtimes
- The app doesn’t list wait times for the various attractions
For any of these things, you’d need to download the MyDisneyExperience app, which is also free.
Here’s how to use the new app, as well as an overview of what it does.
After you download the app to your device, you’ll get some preference options. If you are visiting the parks, you’ll be able to enable locations. Next, you will have the option to choose your park. Right now, there are two options – Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Once you choose the destination, you’ll be prompted to pick a park from within that destination.
On the next screen, you’ll see a park map with a variety of icons. Select an icon to proceed to the next point.
The question mark icon will take you to a series of trivia questions. These aren’t easy! There are definitely some challenging questions here.
Select the music note and you’ll be given a playlist of Disney tunes that are appropriate for the location you’ve chosen. If you have Apple Music, you’ll be able to add the playlist.
If you are in the parks, there are various “achievements” that you can get. You can use your MagicBand or redeem a FastPass+. Or if you are logged into the app and have Bluetooth and locations enabled, you’ll get the achievement.
You are able to set up different players on the app, and you’ll see your achievements listed on this page.
If you are at the parks, you can also play interactive games while you are at the attractions. For instance, you’ll find Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure on the app. There are also multiplayer interactive games at the queues for certain attractions, including the Playset Party at Toy Story Mania, and in specific parks, like Andy’s Boardgame Blast at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
There is so much potential for this new app, and it’s free to download. You can get it for iOS here.
