• Vacation Do-Over Stories – Do You Have One?

family travel reviews - Oahu Almost twelve years ago, I got married and went on my honeymoon to Hawaii.  While I planned the wedding, my husband pretty much planned the honeymoon, and he organized a great trip to Kauai, Maui, and San Francisco.  For the most part, the wedding went as planned, and when we arrived at the Grand Hyatt Kaui Resort and Spa, we were ready for some relaxation.  The first two nights were great, and as we dined on our last night at that resort, my husband started to feel ill. An hour or two later, and he was burning up.  By the morning, he was incredibly ill and I couldn’t even imagine getting on the quick flight to Maui.

After several more hours of rest, I got him some over the counter medications, and he was okay enough to travel.  But, once we arrived in Maui, he ended up spending the entire afternoon sleeping while I explored the hotel and ate my room service meal on the balcony.  He went to the doctor the next day, and was sick for almost a full week.

Yes, our long planned and incredibly expensive honeymoon was spent with a very sick husband.  We swore that we’d return five years later on our anniversary, but of course by then we had a precious baby girl and was in no place to get on a flight for 15 hours.

So, what’s your vacation do-over story?  Have you planned a trip only to have the whole vacation go wrong?
