My kids travel a lot, whether it’s on a family vacation or an overnight at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Now that they are 6 and 8, they enjoy packing and carrying their own stuff. When we were at the Container Store’s big travel sale earlier this summer, we saw these adorable hardshell wheelie suitcases and backpacks and my kids begged for them. I let them pick out their own – the ladybug for my daughter and the penguin for my son, and they just love them, so I couldn’t resist doing a kid suitcase review – they are just perfect for anyone looking for luggage for their young children.
Kid Suitcase Review
The set comes with both a 18″ wheelie suitcase and a matching 13″ hardshell back pack. Although they are hardshelled, they are also pretty lightweight and definitely easy to roll. The store we went to only had the ladybug and the penguin, but I’ve also seen an adorable alien available online. Both the backpack and the rolling suitcase work as carry-on bags on an airplane – we put the wheelie bag in the overhead and the backpack under the seat in front of us. The backpack also fits perfectly in the carry-on for storage. The suitcase fits enough clothes for a few days and the backpack is great for stuffed animals, games, books, and electronic devices. There’s even a mesh covering to hold the clothes in – that way, they don’t fall all over when you open the bag. We’ve gotten dozens of compliments on them, and the kids love wheeling around their own bags. It also helps them be more responsible – by packing their own bags and being responsible for them, they have more “ownership” over the planning process on our vacation. We’ve used the bags a few times and they are still looking great!
While we purchased ours at the Container Store, I noticed that Amazon.com also carries them.
