Review: Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth Cape Cod

I grew up in Rhode Island, and pretty much had the ocean right outside my window. But I was never a beach person – I always preferred hanging out by a pool rather than sitting in the hot sand. It wasn’t until the past year or so that I began to appreciate how fabulous a good beach day is.

All I need is a chair, towel, sunscreen, umbrella, and a good book, and I can sit on the beach all day. The salty air, crashing waves, the warm sun… I can’t believe I never appreciated it before.

One thing I don’t like about the beach is the hassle of getting there. Although I live just minutes from the coast now, it isn’t so easy to spend the day at the beach. Traffic to the popular beaches can be a nightmare, and these beaches often fill up, sending carloads of disappointed beach lovers home.

So all summer, I looked forward to a long weekend at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth, Cape Cod – a hotel that is located directly on the beach. Once you arrive at the hotel, you won’t have to leave to enjoy the best of the Massachusetts coast.

A Review of the Family-Friendly Sea Crest Beach Hotel

Location of the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

The Sea Crest Beach Hotel is located in North Falmouth, MA, on the world-famous Cape Cod. The hotel sits right on Old Silver Beach, on a gorgeous stretch of sand. Those visiting Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket may want to stop for a night in Falmouth, as that’s where the Steamship Authority sets sail from.

The Sea Crest Beach Hotel is convenient to many Cape Cod restaurants, shops, and attractions. Although there’s plenty to do at the resort, you can also easily drive to find other things to do during your vacation.

Throughout the year, there is a daily resort fee charged by the Sea Crest Beach Hotel. The rate goes up during the peak season.

Amenities at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

The obvious draw of the Sea Crest Beach Hotel is the access to the beach, but there is so much more than that. Prefer to enjoy some pool time? The Sea Crest has two saline pools – both an indoor one and an outdoor pool (which is open seasonally).

There’s also a hot tub. Even in the summer, we enjoyed some pool time in the indoor pool, when it started to rain a bit.

The hotel also has a spa, an arcade, and a gift shop. Complimentary parking is offered for hotel guests, but additional vehicles do have to pay a fee.

Beach lovers will definitely appreciate the private stretch of Old Silver Beach. In season, there are employees available to help set up beach chairs and umbrellas. We would have everything set up for us and then spend most of the day right on the beach. In season, you can also rent paddle boards and kayaks to enjoy in the water.

The customer service is great – from the beach to the front desk staff, everyone is accommodating and friendly.

Restaurants at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

We celebrated my daughter’s birthday during our weekend away, and she requested dinner at the on-site Red’s Restaurant for her special birthday dinner. The food is great, and you can’t beat the view. We also ate both of our lunches beachside.

Restaurants at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel include the following:

Red’s Restaurant: Named for the legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach (a former owner), Red’s is a casual but nice restaurant with a gorgeous view of the beach. It’s one of my kids’ favorite restaurants. In season, it’s open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you want to book in advance of your vacation, you can book it through Open Table.

Red’s Outdoor Bar: This outdoor bar is open during the summer season. It’s a great place to get a drink or a quick bite. We always love getting a drink at the outdoor bar while watching the sunset.

The Scoop: From mid-May through mid-October, you can enjoy ice cream from The Scoop, which is located right near the pool.

Rooms at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

I love any place with clean, coastal decor, so I always enjoy seeing the beautiful style at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel. All of the rooms are modern and clean, with bright calming colors.

The hotel offers several different room types. These include:

  • Standard room: available with both one king bed, king with bunk beds, or two double beds. These rooms don’t have a view and may be located upstairs in one of the buildings (with only stairs access).
  • Signature rooms: located in the main and outlying buildings, these rooms either have one king or two double beds.
  • Ocean-view rooms are similar to the standard rooms but have a view of the bay. These rooms are only accessible via stairs.
  • Oceanfront rooms: These rooms, which include a balcony or a patio, face Old Silver Beach. They are available with both one king bed or two double beds.
  • Fireplace rooms: These rooms have one king bed and a fireplace.
  • Dog-Friendly Rooms: If you are traveling with your pets, book one of these special rooms. An additional fee applies, and only one or two dogs are permitted.
  • Family Suites: If you’d like more room for your family, these suites can be a great option. There are one and two-bedroom options.

Room amenities at the Sea Crest Beach hotel include flat-screen televisions, comfortable beds, Keurig coffee makers, a desk, hairdryers, and complimentary WiFi.

When choosing a room type, think about how you plan to use the room. We never really spend much time in the room, so we don’t need much space or much of a view. But if you are staying longer and may spend more time in the room, you may consider a more premium room.

Recently, the Sea Crest opened a new, private 3-bedroom beach cottage. It features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a large living room, an open kitchenette, a washer and dryer, a deck, and a private backyard. The cottage is perfect for a family reunion, a group of friends, or a family that would like some extra space.

Getting to the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

Most guests at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel will most likely be driving. However, you can also fly into Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) or the regional Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA). You will most likely need a car – compare rental prices here.

Things to Do Near the Sea Crest

While the beach is definitely the biggest draw for guests at this beach hotel, there are other things to do in the area. You can see our favorite things to do in Falmouth here. I also recommend driving around to see some of the other towns on Cape Cod during your visit.

  • There are also some local tours, including sunset tours, that you can book. Add your dates here and see the options available during your vacation.

What to Bring to the Sea Crest Beach Hotel

The hotel offers beach chairs and umbrellas during the peak season, so you won’t have to worry about bringing those types of beach supplies. You’ll still want to have a beach bag, pouches, sunscreen, sunglasses, a book, and other personal beach supplies.

If you are visiting the public beach, don’t forget to bring the supplies you’ll need.
