• Learning About the Cayman Sea Life With the Cayman Sea School

    Cayman Islands Sea School

During our press trip to the Cayman Islands, my daughter and I got to experience on of the perks of the Cayman Summer Splash program – the semi-submarine trip that is part of the Cayman Sea School.  Guests who book the Summer Splash program receive the Sea School program for free.   First thing in the morning, we headed out to the Nautilus Semi-Submarine, and were treated to a guided tour of two shipwrecks and a reef.

    Semi-Submarine

We boarded the semi-submarine at the dock, and each found a spot by a window.  Our guide talked us through the two wrecks – the Wreck of the Cali and the Wreck of the Balboa.  We also heard about the history of the island and how the island was affected by Hurricane Ivan.  My daughter especially loved learning about how parrot fish make sand (Google it).  We also loved learning about the differences between hard and soft corals.

My daughter’s favorite part was the tour of “Cheeseburger Reef”.  Our ship’s captain dove down into the reef with fish food and the fish came right up to our windows.  All of the kids on the trip loved it, and we all had fun getting pictures.

Learning about the sea life of the Cayman Islands is the real benefit of this trip.  Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and great at explaining things.  The kids were all captivated during the entire trip.

Disclosure: All of our expenses were covered by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
