• Learn About Nantucket’s Whaling History

While on our Nantucket family vacation, we had the opportunity to check out the Nantucket Whaling Museum, located within walking distance from the White Elephant Residences (where we stayed).  I wasn’t sure how my kids would like it – but they actually loved it!

While not specifically a museum targeted to children, it does have kid-friendly features, including a discovery room for children where kids can dress up in old-fashioned Puritan clothing.  A family guidebook is available at the ticket counter, and kids can follow cartoon Puritan children Obidiah and Rachel to many exhibits around the museum.  There’s also a huge real skeleton of a giant sperm whale, which my kids loved.

Don’t miss taking the elevator to the top of the museum for gorgeous views of the Nantucket (and a fabulous photo opportunity too!).
