On my recent trip to Virginia for the Beach Front Family Fun and Food Media Tour, our first stop was to the Virginia Aquarium. I’ve been to quite a few aquariums before, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. But after our short tour, I’m convinced this is the nicest aquarium I’ve been to.
We only had about an hour to tour the aquarium, so we only got to see the Bay and Ocean pavilion, and unfortunately not the Marsh pavilion. But, even just the Bay and Ocean pavilion had more robust displays than any other aquarium I’ve visited. There were lots of different animals to be spotted, and the displays were uncrowded, and easy to check out.
My favorite was the outdoor upland river area, where I spotted these turtles as well as some quail. I also loved these Komodo Dragons – my son would absolutely love these. We also checked out the shark tank, learned about sea turtle rescue, touched sharks and rays, and viewed the jellyfish. I also loved seeing the seals in the front of the building, and I wished we had time to participate in the “seal splash” premium experience. I know that when I return to the Virginia Beach area, I’ll definitely bring my kids here – they’ll just love it.
