Choosing the Best Walt Disney World Resort

Disney's Yacht and Beach Clubs

What’s your favorite Disney Resort?  That’s a question I’m frequently asked, and it’s so difficult to answer.  Of course, I love Disney, but I’m also obsessed with hotels in general, and I’ve come to appreciate all of the unique qualities of each of the Walt Disney World resorts.  So, my favorite resort for a girl’s weekend is different from my favorite family resort.  And, my favorite resort while I’m alone is different from when I’m traveling with my kids.  When I’m recommending a resort, I always look at the family’s budget, because I don’t believe that you need to break the bank to create lasting family memories.

When my kids were smaller, we loved the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Some of my son’s first words were “I shheee aminals” as he sat at the sliding door in our resort that overlooked a savannah.  But I don’t love the location, and the rooms are small.  As my kids have gotten older, we prefer the Beach Club Resort, where my kids love playing in Stormalong Bay (the huge pool area).  We also love eating at Epcot, so being walking distance is a big benefit.

For a girl’s weekend?  I love staying at the Boardwalk Inn, or the Swan/Dolphin Resorts, because the Boardwalk is a great place to hang out at night.  When I’m alone (and I’m sure, when the kids get older), I love the Contemporary, because it’s modern, close to the Magic Kingdom, and just so cool!  And, of course, the Polynesian is super-convenient, and has some great restaurants (plus the best coffee on property, in my opinion).

For moderate or value resorts, I like Port Orleans French Quarter, Coronado Springs, and Pop Century.  Pop Century is a great value, and is totally fun for kids.  Coronado Springs is better for adults, and the rooms are fabulous.  As for Port Orleans French Quarter, it’s a nice, small resort that’s great for families with small kids.
